Did you know...

It is estimated that 15 million girls under 18 are married every year without their consent being considered or they have a choice in whether they are to be married or not that is about 1 in 4 girls around the world. Help stop this by supporting the organization girlsnotbrides.org which is tackling this problem and they know that child marriage without consent is against human rights.

Women in most countries are kept from reaching their full potential economically due to legal obstacles. Some of these obstacles can be like owning properties or when they have to retire or what work they are allowed to do. The World Bank recently researched this and out of 173 economies 155, there was at least one law impeding women's economic opportunities.

In some countries, it is culturally acceptable to beat women. Particularly in some African and South Asian countries wife beating is normal. About half of the woman between 15-49 in the countries above are tricked into believing that wife beating is justified if she refuses sex, burn food, argue or leave home without notice. It is not by the way. On the sources page, there are a few pages that help women in these countries I would recommend to go check them out.

Just because I'm a feminist does not mean that I think women are better than men, it means that I believe we are equal. Equal rights do not mean fewer rights for men. All we want is to be treated with respect and when we are not we resist cause we can. To every Women: never doubt that you're valuable, powerful and deserving of every chance in the world.
